[Congratulations] Chongqing Normal University Received the Approval for Establishment of Chongqing Tchaikovsky Conservatory

Recently, the establishment of Chongqing Tchaikovsky Conservatory as a non-independent legal entity jointly by Chongqing Normal University (“CNU”) and Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory was formally approved by the Ministry of Education. It is the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution established in Western China with a world top conservatory, and a major achievement made by CNU in opening up of high-level education.

Preparations for construction of Chongqing Tchaikovsky Conservatory were started in 2023 under the strong leadership of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal People’s Government with support from the municipal special class of member units. In September 2023, the two universities signed a cooperationmemorandum; in March 2024, a formal cooperation agreement was executed; in May 2024, an application for joint provision of education was submitted to the Ministry of Education; in February 2025, a review of the joint education institution was conducted; in May 2025, the establishment of the institution was approved by the Ministry of Education.

The approval of the establishment is a preliminary outcome and embodiment of the consensus reached between the heads of the two states and of theList ofPractical CooperationDeliverables of the Third Belt and Road Forumfor International Cooperation. Following establishment, the new institution will focus on develop international high-level“music +” talents in line with needs of inland opening up and international cooperation inpilot areas, promote generation of results by new productive forces, drive parallel advancement of industry, university, research and application, and create a signature China-Russia cultural cooperation project to support high-quality development of education and culture in Chongqing, so as to contribute to the“six-zone and one-highland” construction of Chongqing.
