Recently, the Department ofInternational Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Educationreleased a Notice on Transformation and Addition of Chinese Universities by the Chinese Universities Office of Shanghai Cooperation Organization University (“SCO University”) (JWSEA [2025]No.101), according to which Chongqing Normal University was approved for inclusion in the SCO University and would be mainly responsible for thedisciplinary development of journalism.
The SCO University, established in August 2007 as proposed by Russian President Putin at the SCO’s Bishkek Summit of Heads of States, is a non-physical cooperation network of higher education institutions aspiring to boost educational cooperation and exchange between SCO member states and secure human resources for full cooperation of SCO in different fields. By joining the SCO University, CNU will cooperate closely with other member universities and add a strong impetus to the development ofversatile talent in journalism, while growing itself into a national first-class comprehensive university with international influence and a contributor to the“Belt and Road” education initiative.
