In order to deeply implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important exposition on education and the spirit of the significant instructions in his important speeches during his visit to Chongqing, accelerate and expand the opening up of Chongqing's education to the outside world, build the brand of "Studying in Chongqing", and establish Chongqing as a preferred destination for global outstanding youth to study abroad and a prime location for innovation and entrepreneurship, Chongqing Municipal Government launches the Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as “Chongqing Mayor Scholarship”).

I. Eligibility

1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens, and be in good health both mentally and physically.

2. Education background and age limit:

Applicants for Bachelor’s program should have a high school degree and be under the age of 25. Applicants for Master's program should have a Bachelor degree and be under the age of 35. Applicants for Doctoral program should have a Master degree and be under the age of 40. Applicants for language study should be in the age of 18-50.

3.Certificate of the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA Exam).

Only applicants for Bachelor’s programs are required to provide CSCA Exam certificate.

4.Applicants who have obtained other scholarships should not apply for the Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship.

II. Coverage of Scholarship

The coverage of scholarship should be not longer than the normal years for Bachelor’s /Master’s / Doctoral programs.

III. Application Procedure

Applicants should log in the website of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Chongqing Normal University, and register in the "Chongqing Normal University International Student Online Service System" (http://foreignstudent.cqnu.edu.cn) , and submit the required materials.

IV. Application materials

1. Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor Scholarship Application form (Attachment 1).

2. Chongqing Normal University Application Form (Attachment 2).

3.The certificate of the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA Exam). Only Bachelor Program applicants are required to provide it, and other applicants are not required. The specific CSCA exam subjects are detailed in Category of Bachelor’s Program for International Students. For detailed introduction and registration methods of CSCA, please visit the official website (www.csca.cn).

4.Copy of passport (if applicants have a history of coming to China, please submit the Chinese visa page).

5.Highest diploma attained or proof of study (notarized photocopy).Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or in English.

6. Transcripts (notarized photocopy in Chinese or in English).

7.Study plan (written in Chinese or English, no less than 1000 words/characters).

8. Language proficiency certificate.

Language program: HSK and HSKK Certificate

Bachelor Programs: a certificate of HSK5 180 scores or above.

Master Programs:a certificate of HSK4 180 scores or above.

Doctor Programs:

For Chinese-taught programs, a HSK5 certificate with a score of 180 or above is required. For English-taught programs (Doctoral Programs of Mathematics and Biology), an IELTS certificate with a score of 6.0, a TOEFL certificate with a score of 80, or a certificate from the previous university indicating that the previous degree was instructed in English is necessary. For applicants from countries where English is the official language are exempt from proof of English language proficiency.

9.Two letters of recommendation. Applicants for Master’s /Doctoral programs shall provide two letters of recommendation by associate professors or professors.

10.Foreigner Physical Examination Form, together with the original copy. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results are valid only 6 months.

11. Non-Criminal Record, issued by the local public security (such as the police station), It is usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

12. Bank deposit certificate (no less than 25,000 RMB in principle).

13. Resume.

14. Personal works. Applicants for the Arts or Design program shall provide his/her own works (such as videos and copies of paintings).

V. Approval and Notification

1. Chongqing Normal University will review all the application materials, and may conduct a test if necessary. Assessment and selection for admission and for granting scholarship will be made based on merits.
2. Chongqing Normal University will inform the scholarship winners by the end of June 2026. The Admission Notice, and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW202 of electronic documents) together with other relevant documents will be sent in July 2026.
