Chinese Government Scholarship, 2026

Chinese Government Scholarship is established by China Scholarship Council, aiming to provide support in developing international high level universities and promote more excellent international students to study in China. Chinese Government Scholarship is now available for application for overseas students to pursue Bachelors/ Masters/Doctoral program.

I. Application Period

Type B: January 1,2026 - March 1, 2026

1.Ministry of Education of the peoples Republic of China & Chongqing Municipality Joint program.

2.Excellent postgraduate program.

II. Basic information of scholarship

Full scholarship:exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and on-campus accommodation fee; with the Living allowance (2500RMB per month for Bachelor students, 3000 RMB per month for Master student, 3500 RMB per month for Doctoral student).

III. Categories of Applicants and Duration of Scholarship

1. Categories

Ministry of Education of the peoples Republic of China & Chongqing Municipality Joint program: Bachelors/ Masters/Doctoral program.

Excellent postgraduate program: Masters/Doctoral program.

2.Duration

Bachelors program: 4 academic years .

Master's program: 3 academic years.    

Doctoral program: 4 academic years.  

Chinese-taught programs scholarship students without sufficient Chinese language proficiency (180 scores of HSK 4 or above for Bachelors program and 180 scores of HSK 5 or above for Masters/Doctoral program) are required to take one-year remedial Chinese language courses and pass the relevant test prior to the studies in their specialties. For those who take the one-year remedial Chinese language courses, the duration of the scholarship will be extended accordingly.

IV. Eligibility

Applicants for Bachelor's program should have a high school degree,hold a score certificate of the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA Exam), and be under the age of 25.

Applicants for Master's program should have a Bachelor degree and be under the age of 35.

Applicants for Doctoral program should have a Master degree and be under the age of 40.

V. Application Procedure

1. Complete the online application of the "Chinese Government Scholarship Management Information System” (http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/).

Applicants should register an account, fill in application information and submit the required materials. The category of the Chinese Government Scholarship Program is B, and the agency code of Chongqing Normal University is 10637. After submitting the application, applicants could download and print the "Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form". Please sign the form and confirm the serial number generated by the system on the application form.

2. Applicants should log in the website of the Office for International Cooperation and Exchanges, Chongqing Normal University, register in the Chongqing Normal University International Students Online Service System(http://foreignstudent.cqnu.edu.cn) and submit the required materials.

VI Application Materials

1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (printed by CSC), in Chinese or in English.

2. Passport copy. An applicant shall submit a clear scanned copy of the information page of his/her passport that will not expire on or before September 1 , 2026.

3. The certificate of the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA Exam). Only Bachelor Program applicants are required to provide it, and other applicants are not required. The specific CSCA exam subjects are detailed in the 2026 Chongqing Normal University Bachelor Program Major list for International Students. For detailed introduction and registration methods of CSCA, please visit the official website (www.csca.cn).

4. Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations

5. Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending universitys  academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. They can be in Chinese or English, but must be attached with notarized English translations if they are in foreign languages other than English;

6. Language proficiency certificate.

Bachelors programs: a certificate of HSK4 180 scores or above.

Masters programs:a certificate of HSK5 180 scores or above.

Doctoral programs: For Chinese-taught programs, a HSK5 certificate with a score of 180 or above is required. For English-taught programs (Doctoral Programs of Mathematics and Biology), an IELTS certificate with a score of 6.0, a TOEFL certificate with a score of 80, or a certificate from the previous university indicating that the previous degree was instructed in English is necessary. For applicants from countries where English is the official language are exempt from proof of English language proficiency.

7. A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words; the proposal of a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicants Chinese supervisor.

8. Recommendation letters. Applicants for Master’s /Doctoral programs shall provide two letters of recommendation by associate professors or professors. These letters shall describe the applicants objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth, as well as the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchange between universities both in China and abroad.

9. Example of art. Applicants for the arts or design program shall provide their own works (such as videos and paintings).

10. A photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by Chinese quarantine authority) filled in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months.

11. No criminal record certification. It is usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

12.Bank deposit certificate (25,000 RMB in principle)

VII. Approval and Notification
1. Chongqing Normal University will review all the application materialsand may conduct a test if necessary. Assessment and selection for admission and for granting scholarship will be made based on merits.
2. The name list of the recommended scholarship winning candidates for graduate programs will be sent to China Scholarship Council for approval .
3. After the name list is reviewed and approved by China Scholarship Council, the scholarship winners will be notified by the university by the end of June 2026, and Admission Notice, and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) together with other relevant documents will be sent to them in July 2026.

VIII. Important Notes
1. Chongqing Normal University will manage scholarship students' affairs according to the relevant regulations of Chinese Government Scholarship. Scholarship students must go through the Annual Review of the Chinese Government Scholarship.
2.Scholarship students are not allowed to change their institutions. And scholarship students should not permitted to change academic programs or the duration of study specified in the Admission Notice after registration in principle.
