To further advance cultural immersion education for international students and help them experience the profound heritage of Chinese civilization and achievements in ecological conservation, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange organized a themed study tour in Fuling District, Chongqing. Held from April 3 to 4, the activity was themed "Understanding Modern China: Unfolding Millennium History Underground, Comprehending Nature in Valleys," attracting 24 international students from 11 countries.
Moving beyond the classroom, faculty and students visited the Wuling Mountain Great Rift Valley, the 816 Underground Project, and the Wujiang River Gallery in sequence. Amid the dramatic karst landscapes of the Wuling Mountain Great Rift Valley, students witnessed nature's grandeur and gained insights into China's ecological protection and sustainable development efforts. The monumental underground defense facility of the 816 Project—described by Atlas Obscura as "a testament to what man can achieve through sheer willpower"—offered them a profound understanding of the Chinese nation's spirit of perseverance and resilience. The pristine waters and lush mountains of the Wujiang River Gallery fully showcased the charm of ecological beauty.
Participating students described the study tour as an impressive and valuable experience. Reid from Russia spoke highly of the unique charm of Chongqing's landscapes, while Joshua from Rwanda praised how the 816 Project embodies the core spirit of China.
Serving as a vivid lesson on national conditions, this immersive study tour enabled international students to perceive China's profound history, ecological achievements, and spiritual strength through on-site exploration. It has deepened their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture, laying a solid foundation for them to serve as envoys and bridges for friendly cultural exchanges between China and the world.
