The School of Continuing Education (School of Teachers’ Education) of Chongqing Normal University locates in the Shapingba campus of Chongqing Normal University (hereafter as CNU), consisting of General Affairs Office, Teaching Management Section, Self-taught Exam Management Section, Student Management Office, and Teachers’ Education Section. It is mainly responsible for diploma education and non-diploma education.
Diploma education consists of adult higher education and self-taught exam education, with two levels of education for junior college and undergraduate programs. Currently, there are about 10,000 students and 300 full-time and part-time teachers. Among these, professors and associated professors account for 70%. Now there are about 270 classes with over 50 majors of undergraduate and junior college programs. It includes both teacher training majors for education sectorand non-teacher training majors for meeting the needs of local economic construction. Since 1979, more than 100,000 students have graduated from this school, most of whom have been the back-bone or the leading personnel in various fields. Some of them have been provincially or municipally awarded because of their outstanding contribution; some have been promoted to leading positions of local cities or provinces.
Non-diploma education is based on the advantages of disciplines and majors in CNU. The school focuses on the training of teachers of primary and secondary schools, featuring teachers’ training in both national and municipal levels. The school is entitled with many qualifications in training, including School for Model Concentrated Training of National Training by the Ministry of Education, Training Base for Primary and Secondary Backbone Teachers of Chongqing,Municipal Training Base for Special Training Teachers, etc. From 2002 to 2012, relying on relevant training bases, the school has undertaken and implemented 142 projects for 10,000 different teachers’ trainings from national to municipal levels. Meanwhile, the school is also responsible for trainings and exams like National Exam for Teachers Training Skills, College Entrance Exams for Adult, Computer Rank Examinations and English Exam for Diploma, so as to meet the requirements of different levels.
With the concepts of “serving the economic construction, social development and teachers and education reform”, as well as “cultivating application–oriented and qualified graduates and high-quality teacher resources for basic education”, the school follows the educational rules, and teaches teach earnestly and manages strictly, so that the quality of teaching and training has been fully recognized by the society. It has been awarded many various prizes in both national and municipal levels. Nowadays, following the comprehensive developing concept and objectives of CNU, the school is upgrading itself to adjust the major structure, improve teaching quality, explore new mode of education, propel the novel trial plots of teachers’education, andpave the way for the continuing education of CNU and the progress of teachers and education .
