The College of Physics and Electronic Engineering (CPEE), Chongqing Normal University (CNU) is one of the earliest-established colleges in CNU which was founded in 1954. There are 67 faculty members with 16 professors, 24 associate professors, 1 PhD supervisor, 21 supervisors of postgraduate, and 50 % of the teaching staff is with doctor degree. CPEE has three full-time four-year undergraduate programs including Physics, Electronic Information Science and Technology, as well as Optical and Electrical Information Science & Engineering. Currently, more than 1400 undergraduate students and nearly 100 master degree candidates are studying in CPEE. CPEE is also an affiliated unit of Chongqing society of physics.
The College attaches great importance to discipline construction: the discipline of Physics is qualified as the key discipline of Chongqing; the discipline of Optical Engineering is one of the supportive disciplines for doctor degree application of CNU. The College was initially qualified and authorized as an institution to offer Master’s program of Physics and Optical Engineering as the first-level master discipline and Master’s program of Curriculum and Teaching Methodology. Besides, CPEE recruits postgraduate students of Education in Physics and secondary vocational education postgraduates of Teaching Methodology.
CPEE builds several high-qualified teaching and research platforms, such as the key laboratory of Chongqing on optical and electrical functional materials, optical engineering key laboratory of Chongqing municipal education committee, Chongqing physical experiment teaching center, research innovation teamwork of Chongqing, and a Chongqing innovation experimental center for human resources training model.
The College consists of three departments: two teaching and research sections, and an institute, which are Department of Physics, Department of Electronic Information Science and Technology, Department of Optical and Electrical Information Science & Engineering, Teaching and Research Section of Experiment, Teaching and Research Section of Education in Physics, and Solar Energy Institute. With a 10000 m2 floor space in teaching and research experiment room in area, CPEE currently has teaching and research equipments exceeded 30 million RMB.
The main research areas in the college cover laser unit device, information optics, optoelectronics materials and devices, magnetic functional materials, and amorphous materials, among others. A good basis is formed and many research achievements have been obtained. CPEE has got more the 100 provincial and national project funds. And in the past five years, the research funds of CPEE have exceeded 10 million RMB.
Since the founding of the College, more than 10,000 junior college students and undergraduate students, and 200 postgraduates have graduated from the College. The College CPEE seeks to be student-centered so that they may explore their capabilities and interests and develop their full intellectual and human potential. It aims to foster academic innovation through coordinated inter-disciplinary developmental efforts and draws on an unwavering drive toward excellence with a commitment to contribute to the needs of a changing society. Nearly 50 percent undergraduate students took part in National Contest: National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, Undergraduate Microcontroller Design Contest, Undergraduate Mathematical Contest, and "Challenge Cup" National Undergraduate Contest. Many students have achieved national and provincial awards. In recent years, with a growing social impact, CPEE has enrolled more high-quality students. The College graduates have been enjoying popularity among the employers of the job market. The employment rate of the college has reached above 97%. Many graduates became business mainstays and leaders. Great contributions to the science and education of Chongqing have been made by the College of physics and Electronic Engineering. The College actively promotes commercialization of technological achievements, expands the coverage of education and science and in return enjoys satisfactory social and economic benefits.
