The College of History and Social Science of Chongqing Normal University was founded in 1972. It was formerly known as the Department of History and renamed the College of History and Social Science in 2009. Presently, the College has 66 faculty members (including 16 professors, 20 associate professors, 22 doctors and PhD candidates), and the faculty is well-structured with members of different professional titles, ages and academic levels.
The College offers three undergraduate education programs, i.e. History, Cultural Heritage and Museology and Social Work, one doctoral program of the general discipline – Archaeology, and master’s programs of general disciplines – Chinese History and Archaeology. It is also authorized to offer three additional master’s programs, i.e. Cultural Heritage and Museology, Social Work and Subject Teaching (History). It has over 1,000 in-school students.
The College hosts several platforms for teaching and scientific research, including Three Gorges Culture and Social Development Research Institute – a key research base for humanity and social sciences in Chongqing, Archaeology and Museology Teaching and Experiment Center jointly constructed with the Ministry of Finance for 2 ministerial level key disciplines – special history and archaeology, and Archaeological and Museological Experiment Teaching and Demonstration Center in Chongqing. Since 2013, the College has undertaken over 160 major tendering projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, published 64 works and over 300 academic articles, and won over 20 provincial or ministerial-level prizes for scientific research achievements.
The College has established partnership with over 20 institutions, including Siberian Education and Science University, Tohoku Gakuin University, Institute of History Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of Chinese Academy of Science, etc.
